Logging on to the RHS Network for the First Time

Logging Into RHS Computer and Windows for the first time

  • Step 1: Power on your computer/workstation if it is off.  Once it workstation has completed booting (starting up), you will eventually see a Windows login prompt.  Within that Windows login prompt, click the button labeled "Options".  You will then see a drop-down menu. Please click on the drop down menu to select the "RHSNET".
  • Step 2: After you have selected the "RHSNET" option from the drop down menu, please enter your unique net ID into the appropriate portion of the login prompt.
  • Step 3: Every new, authorized user should confidentially receive a new, single-use password from the RHS IS Office. This should come by phone or from your supervisor. If you did, in fact, receive this new single-use password, please enter it into the appropriate portion of the Windows login prompt. If you did not receive a single-use password, please contact the Help Desk at 517-353-1691, or via e-mail at support@rhs.msu.edu.
  • Step 4: After you have entered your login information (unique net ID & single-use password), please click on the button labeled "Ok" within the Windows login prompt, again using your left mouse button.
  • Step 5: You will immediately be prompted to change your Windows login password. As noted above, in Step 3 of Part A, the new password that was provided to you by the RHS IS office is a single-use password only. To keep your workstation as secure as possible, please follow the password requirements (below) when creating your new, confidential Windows login password:
    • Your network password should be made up of a minimum of 8 characters
    • Must contain at least one numeric character or special character
    • Must contain one uppercase (capital) character

Sample of strong password: SpartansWill#1!

  • You should now be all set.  Your password will be valid for 90 days, until you are prompted to change it.
